And I will be…in four years. What can I say? I blossomed early. Home sucked, so I left, determined to do something with my life. Landing the gig as lead vocalist in the band was a dream come true. I’ve worked hard to make something of myself and nothing is going to ruin that for me. Then He showed up. He’s hot as hell and so into me. But he’s also twenty-five. I don’t want to lie to him, but if the truth comes out I’ll lose everything, including him.

Synopsis: My best friend was dying and I was in love with his girl.

Andy and I had been best friends since we were eight-years old. Watching him slowly fade away, ever closer to his final breath, made me so incredibly angry. I knew there was nothing I could do to change it--I had given in to despair, but Andy had not. He had one last hand to play.

He wasn't going to simply sit back and wait for Death to claim him--not Andy. He was going to live life until he couldn't hold his eyes open any longer.

Andy didn't want to die in some sterile hospital and asked me to take him and Emily to the beach. It would be our last road trip together.

Emily. Emily was a problem for me.

I harbored a secret that would have torn our friendship apart. I was in love with Andy's girl, and had been since she'd walked into our sixth grade class, so many years ago.

So what kind of person am I? My best friend is dying, and it's awful--but my heart still aches for his girl. I hate myself for thinking beyond Andy's death and whether there could ever be a future for Emily and I, but I can't help it.

I'm in love with her.

Book Spotlight and Giveaway: Blood of the Immortal by Ashley Jeffers

Title: Blood Of The Immortal

Author: Ashley Jeffers

Release date: April 25th, 2014

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Book Description:
I had no life…
For the past ten years, I’ve been kept away from the world, treated as a danger to those around me. While the visions I have both confuse and frighten me, I know I’m not the dangerous one in the family. Escape has never been within my reach. When my father dragged me along on an expedition to an ancient temple, I discovered a door hidden in the wall, and everything changed.
He would live forever…
After freeing a vampire from his stone prison, I was swept away to the island belonging to his coven. He swears none of them will harm me, but I can’t be so sure. Zachary is convinced he knew me before he was imprisoned—three hundred years ago. He tries to get me to remember our shared past…while I find myself more concerned with our future.
My blood could end them…

Book Excerpt:

I opened the door to find Zachary standing on the other side, his hands behind his back and his head bowed. He looked so sad, and I wondered what had upset him. “Is something wrong?” I asked, resisting the urge to throw my arms around him and hold him close.
He raised his head, but could barely look at me. I felt my heart breaking. I had a sinking feeling he was going to tell me something I did not want to hear. Finally, he spoke. “Diana is here, and would like to meet you.”
“Who’s Diana?” I asked, not a bit relieved. I didn’t really care who she was. All I wanted was for Zachary to look at me, to tell me everything was going to be okay.
“She’s an Elder, the one who made Matthias,” Corbin explained.
“Why would she want to meet me?”
“She would like to speak to us all, actually.” Zachary finally met my gaze. More sadness filled his eyes now than when he spoke of his mother’s death a few hours earlier. What could possibly be wrong? He brought his hands from behind his back. “I brought you a change of clothes, just in case you wanted to clean up a bit before you meet her.”
I looked down to see a short red dress draped over his arm. I hesitated a moment before taking it from him and whispering, “Thank you.”
“You could take a bath, if you’d like,” Corbin suggested as he walked toward one of the three doors to our left. As he opened the door, he added, “I’m sure Diana wouldn’t mind waiting.”
I nodded, and headed to the open door. “I won’t be too long,” I assured as I flipped on the light switch. Realizing what I had just done, I looked to Corbin. “Electricity?”
He laughed. “Only a few rooms have it, mainly the ones that don’t have windows.”
“Huh. Okay then,” I uttered as I entered the bathroom and shut the door behind me.
The elegance of the bathroom surprised me. I had not expected it to be as regal-looking as the rest of my room. Everything—the floor, the walls, the sink, and even the bathtub—was made of ivory colored marble. Golden sconces lined the walls, some with unlit candles and others with light bulbs. On the edge of the bathtub lay a few folded, gold colored towels. Near the sink sat an ivory and gold vanity. I ran my fingers over the cool marble of the vanity, in awe at the beauty of the bathroom. The one in Zachary’s room hadn’t been nearly this nice. I laid the dress on the stool, then walked to the tub and turned on the water.
As the water sloshed into the tub, I turned to the vanity again, eyeing my reflection. No wonder Zachary had suggested I clean up. Tiny pieces of glass littered my hair, my shirt and jeans were torn, and dried blood covered my arms, neck, and face. Bending at the waist, I tipped upside down and shook my hair, attempting to knock loose all the glass. I flipped back upright and examined my arms. Amazingly, the only evidence of injury was the blood still staining my skin and clothing. Could vampire blood heal everything?
When the tub filled, I undressed and climbed into the warm water. Though I tried to relax, I found it impossible to do. I could not take my mind off Zachary’s expression. Why was he so sad, and why wouldn’t he look at me? It had to be more than realizing he wasn’t in love with me. He looked like he had lost all hope. What could have caused him to feel that way?
I washed quickly, but once I’d finished, the crying began. Tears fell from my eyes, making tiny splashes in the still water. I had told Corbin and Zachary I would not be long, but I couldn’t force myself to get out of the tub, not while the tears still spilled forth. After a while, I heard a knock on the door, and Zachary’s voice on the other side. “Arielle, is everything all right?”
Maybe he does care, I thought as I brushed tears from my eyes. “Yeah. I’ll be out in a minute.” I attempted to compose myself as I exited the tub and dried off, but crying had only made me feel worse. I pulled the dress over my head, smoothed it out, and grabbed the towel once again. I scrunched the water from my hair I headed for the door. “Sorry,” I said after opening it. “I was just having a hard time getting my hair dry.”
He looked into my eyes and frowned. “Are you sure there is nothing wrong?”
I forced a smile. “Yeah, I’m sure.”
He shook his head as he reached out and touched my cheek. “You have been crying.”
“I’m just a little overwhelmed.” Though it wasn’t a lie, it felt like one. “Where’s Corbin?” I asked when I noticed he was no longer in the room.
“He went down to let Diana know what was keeping us. Are you ready to go?”
I shrugged. “I guess. What does she want to talk to us about?”
He hesitated before answering, “I think it would be best if she told you.” Though I wondered why he wouldn’t tell me what he knew, I decided it was best not to push. Instead, I nodded and tossed the towel back into the bathroom. Zachary took my hand. “We should not keep them waiting any longer.”

Book Spotlight and Giveaway: WILDFLOWER by Kyle Taylor

Wildflower
The Dramatic Life of Barbette --
Round Rock's First and Greatest Drag Queen

By
Kyle Taylor

BLURB:
“More fun than a sex party!”

 — Barbette

Long before Ru Paul  eyed his first pair of six inch stilettos or Boy George donned his colorful caftan, a handsome young man from the small town of Round Rock, Texas barnstormed the stages of Europe’s most lavish theaters and night clubs as Barbette, a beautiful aerialist drag queen who became a scandalous sensation throughout the Roaring Twenties.

Performing his erotic, high wire and trapeze routine in lavish, feminine regalia, Barbette shocked audiences by revealing the true nature of his gender at the very end of his act.

From a child who picked cotton and walked his mother’s clothes line to headlining at the Moulin Rouge in spectacular drag,  Wildflower reveals long-forgotten secrets of this enigmatic performer: his arrest in London on morals charges, his bout with polio, his infamous collaborations with some of Hollywood’s greatest stars— Orson Welles, Vincente Minnelli, and Judy Garland, Jack Lemmon, and Tony Curtis as well as his hidden affair with French surrealist  Jean Cocteau.

Wildflower captivates with every page, dramatically revealing the startling and at times heart-breaking story of Round Rock’s first and greatest drag queen.

EXCERPT:

“You need to take a French lover. It is how you will learn quickly,” Princess Violette said instructively. Her voluminous frame rested on a simple wooden chair, similar to the one Vander sat at in front of his vanity—her girth permitting her to only sit like a man, with her legs open, the heels of her shoes flatly on the floor.
“Yes, preferably one with a mustache!” Radiguet joked.
Vander’s face colored.
“Ah, look he blushed!” Radiguet laughed robustly.
Jean Cocteau grew more serious as he looked intently at Vander.
“I must confess, I have seen your show many times in the past week. You are an angel, a flower, a bird.”
“Oh dear!” Radiguet rolled his eyes.
“Please!” Cocteau turned to Radiguet his eyes darting a flash of anger. Radiguet slumped into the armchair, knowing when Jean Cocteau had a point he wanted to make he would not tolerate distractions.
“I have written a review. It shall be published tomorrow, but I wanted to come back here tonight, for what I have written in it, I can only say to you personally—tonight’s performance was again confirmation of my earlier impressions.”
Vander nodded toward Cocteau apprehensively as the Frenchman pulled from his coat a couple of sheets of scrawled manuscript. He started to read from them:
The curtain goes up on a functional décor—a wire stretched between two supports, a trapeze, and hanging rings. In the back, a sofa covered with a white bearskin.”
“I love the bearskin!” Radiguet smiled, but Cocteau immediately silenced him with his hand as he continued to read from his manuscript.
Barbette enters adorned in ostrich feathers and a flowing lamé evening gown. As he removes his evening gown, he begins to perform a scabrous little scene—a real masterpiece of pantomime, summing up in parody all the women he has ever studied, becoming himself the woman—so much so as to eclipse the prettiest girls who precede and follow him on the program. Bursting on the audience as a ravishing creature he throws his dust with such force that from then on he is free to concentrate on his wire work, in which his masculine movements will help him instead of giving him away. He is no mere acrobat in women’s clothes, nor just a graceful daredevil but one of the most beautiful things in the theatre.”

I killed a girl last night. I did it with my bare hands and an old piece of pipe I found lying next to the dumpster. But that’s not the part that got me. The part that scared me, the part I can’t seem to wrap my head around and still has me reeling, was that when she charged me, her body shifted – and then she was a wolf. All snapping teeth and extended claws. But by the time I stood over her lifeless body, she was a girl again. That’s about the time I went into shock… And that was the moment he showed up.

Now, all I can do is accept the truths that are staring me in the face. One, Werewolves do exist. And Two, I was born to kill them.

One of the Goddesses is on a quest to tilt the scale of power to her side. The other will never let it happen, even if it means kicking Jatred and Jasmira's love to the curb. Nothing is off limits, including removing Jatred's memories of Jasmira.

To complicate things even more, there are the Universe's powers to consider. They are trapped in an ancient Amulet in order to protect the stability of the world. The Scent of Humanity

Lightning doesn’t strike the same place twice. In theory. But in one small town, in one family, that theory is put to the test.

Growing up in a rural town in Massachusetts was supposed to be safe, but for SILVIE CHILDS, that safety was shattered by a kidnapping attempt that forever changed her life. Now, nearly twenty years later, that sense of safety is challenged again by the kidnapping attempt on her young niece, and Silvie is left struggling with one question: How can something like this happen twice in one family?

It is a dilemma shared by NICK FAHEY, the detective assigned to the case. Arriving on the scene of the abduction attempt, Nick expects to run a routine investigation. Until he meets the victim, the niece of a woman he once considered a dear friend. Unfortunately, these days Silvie Childs can barely stand the sight of him.

Once there was a time when Silvie Childs worshipped Nick Fahey, believing he could do no wrong. Until the accident that nearly killed her brother; the accident that Nick reportedly caused. Coming on the heels of her own near abduction, the accident skewed Silvie’s ability to trust men – especially Nick. But now, with the attempt on her niece’s safety, Silvie finds herself in the untenable position of having to trust Nick to bring the kidnapper to justice.

That trust is severely tested when, after only two months, the case is closed for lack of new evidence. Feeling betrayed by the system in which she works as a paralegal and by Nick, Silvie takes matters into her own hands. Contacting local news stations to generate interest in the case, allowing herself to be filmed hanging sketches of the suspect on telephone poles, she will risk her own safety to protect that of her niece. When her efforts re-open the wounds of her past, she is once again forced to put her trust in the one man who still has the power to hurt her – Nick.
