That was until one night with Sterling Johnson, the sexy and deceitful swim champion next door, who changed her entire future. Now, because of that night from her past, Beth’s path as a photographer is forever changed. Gone is the young women she used to be as she struggles to keep a secret hidden.

Sterling Johnson, on the other hand, has quickly become America’s favorite Olympic athlete. Constantly followed and stalked by the press and the father he has turned his back on, Sterling craves someone who isn’t interested in his celebrity.

When a publicity stunt takes him back to a wild college campus and Beth, who turns out to be the media photographer assigned to his story, the flame he thought was dead rekindles. Will Beth prove to be the only girl not interested in his celebrity status? Or are her own twisted secrets and lies about to bring both their worlds down?

Excerpt:

“What the hell are you doing here?” came the hissing voice of Tyler Radeler. He was an unpaid intern at the new company Beth had gotten a post-college paid photography internship at. He was also her biggest competition when it came to which of them would move up to having an actual job at their top media and photography company.“I thought you said you weren’t trying to cover this, that you loathed Olympic athletes and jocks. That they are all ‘awful,’ or something along those lines,” Tyler said as he stuffed pieces of sushi into his mouth and spoke while masticating his food. The smell and sight was enough to make Beth feel like what she ate that morning was slowly rising to the surface. Who says getting pregnant makes you fat? Beth was having trouble keeping weight on right now due to the retching.
“I changed my mind,” she told him as she turned her body around to face away. He didn’t get the hint as his body turned with hers, and behold, in front of them was one of the most beautiful female swimmers who had participated in the last two Olympic Games: Catalina Veselov.
She walked into the ball in a sequined blue dress that made her look all but nearly naked in the best possible way. Parts of her back, the space between her legs, and the top part of her chest were covered with sheer, shining fabric that threatened to move at any moment but didn’t. Tyler’s mouth dropped open as he took in the girl and nearly forgot to do what he was here for, to snap a time stopping photo.
Beth, unlike the others, would have zoomed in on her face, rather than Catalina’s body. It held a secret, something calculating, though perhaps Beth was seeing that out of envy as she was forced, due to her circumstances, to wear baggie outfits in order to cover her expanding belly. If Tyler or my boss finds out I’m pregnant, Tyler will be given the photography job over me, I’m sure of it.
Beth’s thoughts began to spin as her nerves continued and the climax of the evening approached. “Your aspirations can’t be what haunts your feelings anymore,” Beth’s mom had told her as the two of them teared up when Beth announced she was pregnant. “You need to think about this unborn person inside you, and about his or hers father who deserves to know what’s going on.” Too bad nothing had ended on good terms their one night together. In fact, the entire time Beth and Sterling had been neighbors in college they had been arguing constantly just to see who could piss off the other first.
Right as Beth’s mind reregistered all this, he entered the Governor’s Ball and cameras began to flash wildly. America’s new mega athlete was here, and just as the magazines and tabloids had framed him, Sterling looked better than ever. His blue eyes landed right on Catalina, who was now lifting her hands to her hips as he approached. He didn’t see Beth who was being suffocated by all her fellow media minions.
The athletic duo walked right passed everyone to the refreshment area for the governor’s guests. It was time for the governor’s speech which was on the importance of the Summer Olympics and how it, like the Winter Olympics, had the ability to try and bring the entire world together despite everyone’s many differences.
God, I’m going to have to yell to get him to see me. And if he does spot me, will he even be willing to talk? What was I thinking that as an intern from a media company I’d be able to just pull him aside?
